The annual EU Asia Commencement Ceremony was recently held in Kota Kinabalu, at Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa.
The annual EU Asia Commencement Ceremony was recently held in Kota Kinabalu, at Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa. The award-winning hotel was the ideal location for the celebratory ceremony. Among the distinguished guests present were Datuk Dr Yeo Boon Hai, Mayor of Kota Kinabalu City, Dr Dirk Craen, President of EU Business School, Mr. Teoh Wee Ghee, Founder of ACES Worldwide and Peter Lee Chun Wai, Senior District Director of AIA Hong Kong.
A total of 66 graduates from Malaysia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines and Sri Lanka were conferred their bachelorâ€™s, masterâ€™s and doctorate diplomas by Dr. Craen. The event was officiated by Datuk Yeo and in his commencement speech, he stressed on the importance of conserving the environment and urged the graduates to seriously look into the concept of sustainability in everything that they do. Datuk Yeo added, â€œwe did not inherit this environment, we actually borrowed from our children and grandchildren.â€
Meanwhile in the presidential address, Dr. Craen congratulated the graduates and advised them to not stop learning after getting their degrees. He said, â€œDo not think it is finished. You have to learn each day. You have to read each day.â€ He also spoke words of wisdom, urging the graduates to be open to change, be willing to improve and lastly to let happiness be their top priority.
During the ceremony, Datuk Yeo was presented with the EU King Fellow Award, in recognition of his strong leadership and contributions to the city of Kota Kinabalu while Doctor Honoris Causas were also conferred to Mr. Teoh and Mr. Peter Lee. The successful ceremony ended with a group photo at the scenic Tanjung Aru beach followed by a cocktail session.
