Jesselton College was invited to Nippon Paint Young Designer Award 2015
On the first week of August 2015, Jesselton College together with Persatuan Arkitek Malaysia (PAM), Sabah Institute of Art (SIA) and Cosmopoint were invited to Nippon Paint Young Designer (NPYD)-REKA Awards-Momento Designer Launch. The event was held at Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) on a Saturday morning. Also present at the launch were representatives of Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID) or Pertubuhan Perekabentuk Dalaman Malaysia (PPDM).
MIID is the national institute representing the interior design profession in Malaysia. It is an amalgamation of two previous bodies namely, Interior Designers Institute of Malaysia (Institut Perekabentuk Dalaman Malaysia or IPDM) and the Malaysian Society of Interior Designers (MSID). The vision of the institute is to develop a sophisticated society of Malaysians who are conversant and appreciative of the creative world of interior design. To this end, the institute conducts various programmes throughout the year to educate, promote and foster better ties between the public and professional members. All the student participants were strongly encouraged to be a member of MIID.
The challenge of an Interior Designer is to create environments that will benefit people from all walks of life, including the elderly, the young, nursing mothers and the disabled, amongst others. Interior designers are encouraged to share their vision of an ideal work space that promotes work-life balance, is engaging and innovative, and is also eco-sustainable. Hence this year, the competition requires an Interior Designer to envisage and conceptualize any office/work environment both ergonomically and environmentally in terms of large, medium or small sized.
Attractive cash rewards await the most creative and innovative designers with the Gold Award that includes a 6 months internship with IJM Land and a “Learning Programme†trip to Japan. There, the winner will get the chance to meet with famous Interior Designers such as Takashi Sugimoto, SUPER POTATO CO., LTD.
More information can be found at the competition’s website, http://www.youngdesigneraward.com.my. The submission period lasts until 4th September 2015 and entry forms can be collected from the School of Art, Jesselton College.
