With the looming Christmas celebration, Jesselton College was invited by City Mall to participate in a coffee themed Christmas decoration project. As part of the project, Jesselton College was tasked to design and construct a coffee themed Christmas tree. Given this great opportunity, Jesselton College swiftly arranged for the Art school students and Student committee to take part in this project, supervised by Mrs. Jolly, Mr. Erwin, Ms. Tina and Ms. Michelle.
Putting together all their skills and experiences, the concept for the Christmas tree was conceived. With a ‘seed to cup’ concept, the ‘Coffee’ tree represented the process from a coffee tree to beans and then brewed as a beverage. Besides that, the Coffee tree was planned to be built using 90% of recycled materials.
For six weeks, JC students practised their skills in drawing and sketching, digital illustration, and creative thinking in order to design and construct the Christmas tree structure. Aside from using recycled boxes and materials, real coffee beans were also used as part of the tree construction. Finally, to touch up the Coffee tree, decorations were added as highlights and to symbolize the Christmas spirit.
