An experience sharing talk entitled â€œPath of Graphic Designâ€.
An experience sharing talk was held on the 14th June 2014, entitled â€œPath of Graphic Designâ€. Three invited guest speakers from Visual Communication Association (VCA) were present to share their skills, experience, knowledge and tips.
The first speaker Mr. Kung, has more than 15 years of working experience in Design and Multimedia including having served as a Project Manager for the past years. With experience from project management, art directing, graphic design, web design and marketing, Kung shared his knowledge in storyboard – a design process before the digital era, pinhole and analog photography as well as his inspiration of life.
The second speaker, Mr. Francis Goh who also has more than 15 years of extensive and successful career in Design and Multimedia, has a deep passion for art and design as well as animation. During the talk, Francis shared a lot of his knowledge in regards to commercial design and company corporate identity.
On the other hand, Mr. Kwan who has more than 15 years of working experience, is well versed in character design and branding. Throughout his presentation, Kwan showed a lot of interesting character designs including his latest product brand entitled â€˜Kawanâ€™ as well as collaboration with other artists.
Besides that, students also learned a lot about surviving as a local designer and the evolution of graphic design from hand drawings to digital design as well as from analog camera to digital camera. Students were also showed various commercial designs for brochure, logo and flyer as well as types of graphic designs that big companies are usually interested in.
At the end of the talk, students were offered by VCA to join their student committee for a fee. Students will get to obtain design support, participate in activities and gain opportunities for freelance contracts. Upon graduation, students will also easily be able to find a job through VCA as the association is well supported by graphic design companies and photography studios.
