At Jesselton University College (JUC), we are committed to fostering an inclusive and respectful learning and working environment for all members of our academic community. Our Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policies are designed to promote a culture that values diversity, prohibits discriminatory practices, and ensures the well-being of our students, staff, and faculty.
Policy Statement:
Anti-Discrimination Policy: JUC strictly prohibits any form of discrimination based on race, colour, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, marital status, or any other protected characteristic as defined by applicable laws. Discrimination in any aspect of university life, including admissions, hiring, promotion, and access to programs and services, will not be tolerated.
Anti-Harassment Policy: Harassment in any form, including verbal, written, electronic, or physical, is strictly prohibited at JUC. We define harassment as any unwelcome behaviour, comment, or conduct that creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment for any member of our academic community. This policy applies to students, staff, faculty, visitors, and all other individuals associated with the university.
Reporting Mechanism: JUC is committed to providing a safe and confidential reporting mechanism for incidents of discrimination or harassment. Any member of the university community who experiences or witnesses such behaviour is encouraged to report it promptly to the appropriate university authority, such as the Office of Diversity and Inclusion or the Office of Human Resources.
Prompt Investigation: All reports of discrimination or harassment will be promptly and thoroughly investigated. JUC will take appropriate corrective action against any individual found to have engaged in discriminatory or harassing behaviour. This may include disciplinary actions, up to and including termination or expulsion, as per the severity of the offense.
Support and Resources: JUC is committed to providing support and resources to individuals who have experienced discrimination or harassment. Support services, counselling, and other resources will be made available to assist those affected by such incidents.
Education and Training: JUC will conduct regular education and training programs to raise awareness about discrimination and harassment and promote a culture of respect, inclusivity, and sensitivity. These programs will be offered to students, staff, and faculty members.
At Jesselton University College, we believe that every individual should be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their background or identity. Our Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policies reflect our unwavering commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment for everyone associated with the university. Through the implementation of these policies, we aim to foster a campus community that upholds the values of equality, diversity, and mutual understanding.
