Jesselton University College (JUC) is deeply committed to promoting a safe, inclusive, and equitable academic and working environment for all individuals regardless of gender. In support of Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality), JUC has officially implemented a comprehensive Non-Discrimination Against Women Policy, effective from January 2024. This policy was developed, approved, and published during the 2020 to 2024 period, and is publicly available as part of our institutional transparency and accountability framework.
The policy prohibits all forms of discrimination, bias, or unequal treatment against women within the university. This includes, but is not limited to, admissions decisions, scholarship awards, academic progression, hiring and promotion of staff, participation in leadership roles, access to institutional resources, and involvement in research and outreach activities. It also applies to every member of the JUC community including students, faculty, administrators, contractors, and visitors across all campuses, learning centers, and digital platforms.
To uphold this policy, JUC has adopted five specific guidelines:
- Ensure equal access for women to education, scholarships, internships, and employment.
- Enforce gender-neutral recruitment and admission processes with clearly defined and transparent criteria.
- Maintain a zero-tolerance stance toward any form of gender-based harassment, exclusion, or violence, and establish confidential channels for reporting and resolution.
- Promote the balanced representation of women in leadership and decision-making roles throughout the institution.
- Conduct annual reviews using gender-disaggregated data to evaluate participation, progress, and policy effectiveness.
Through this policy, JUC reaffirms its long-term commitment to eradicating gender-based barriers in higher education and creating an inclusive ecosystem where women can thrive academically and professionally. This policy directly supports the university’s contributions to SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), reinforcing JUC’s role as a leading institution for inclusive and socially responsible education in Malaysia.
