Kota Kinabalu, 10 May 2025 – Jesselton University College (JUC) has established a systematic and ongoing tracking process to monitor women’s application, acceptance, and enrollment rates as part of our institutional commitment to gender equality and inclusive access to education. In the year 2024, JUC received a total of 231 applications from female applicants. Of these, 195 were accepted, representing an acceptance rate of 84.4 percent. These figures are tracked and reviewed by the Registrar’s Office as part of the university’s gender equity monitoring system.
This initiative forms a core component of JUC’s gender equity framework and is directly aligned with our commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 5 Gender Equality and SDG 4 Quality Education. Through this tracking mechanism, we aim to ensure that women, especially those from underserved and low-income communities, are fairly represented and supported throughout the admissions process.
The collected data is used not only for institutional reporting but also to inform outreach, scholarship allocation, and programme design to close gender access gaps where they exist. We also ensure this data is published and made accessible to the public through official institutional communication channels, demonstrating transparency and a proactive approach to equity in higher education.
By embedding this gender-focused tracking practice into our broader admissions system, JUC continues to foster an inclusive academic environment that supports the full participation of women at all levels of study. This tracking report is updated annually and is part of JUC’s long-term strategy to uphold equitable representation, access, and outcomes for all genders in Malaysian higher education.
