Jesselton University College (JUC) affirms its unwavering commitment to upholding a safe, inclusive, and respectful academic and professional environment for all members of its community. As part of this commitment, the university has adopted a formal Policy on Protection for Individuals Reporting Discrimination, effective January 2024. This policy ensures that any student, staff member, or affiliate who reports an incident of discrimination in good faith will be fully protected from any academic or employment-related disadvantage or retaliation.
The policy guarantees that individuals will not be penalized or treated unfairly for speaking out against discrimination, harassment, or unequal treatment across any of the university’s operations. It provides clearly defined channels for confidential or anonymous reporting through the Office of Student Affairs or Human Resources Department, and establishes that all complaints will be handled with impartiality and urgency by trained personnel.
JUC recognizes that fear of retaliation is one of the biggest barriers to reporting acts of discrimination. To address this, the policy explicitly prohibits any form of reprisal, including threats, demotions, denial of promotion, academic penalties, or social intimidation. Any proven act of retaliation will result in disciplinary action under the university’s Code of Conduct.
This policy applies institution-wide and is available to students, faculty, staff, interns, contractors, and visitors. It is also made publicly accessible on the university’s official website, and its provisions are introduced during student orientation and staff onboarding sessions.
This protection policy reflects not only compliance with best practices in higher education but also JUC’s ethical stance as a socially responsible institution. It will be reviewed in 2027 to ensure ongoing relevance, effectiveness, and alignment with national law, stakeholder needs, and global standards.
By safeguarding the rights of whistleblowers and promoting a zero-tolerance culture for discrimination, JUC continues to foster an environment where every voice can be heard and every person can thrive.View the policy here: https://tinyurl.com/3kr89bms
