Jesselton University College (JUC) proudly announces the adoption of its Non Discrimination Policy for Transgender, effective January 2024. This policy reflects JUC’s long term institutional commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful academic and working environment where all individuals, regardless of gender identity or expression, are treated with dignity, fairness, and respect. It is aligned with the university’s core values and directly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 5 Gender Equality, SDG 10 Reduced Inequalities, and SDG 4 Quality Education.
The Non Discrimination Policy for Transgender explicitly prohibits any form of discrimination, harassment, exclusion, or unequal treatment based on transgender status across all areas of JUC’s operations. This includes admissions, recruitment and hiring, academic progression, leadership roles, access to resources, participation in campus life, and use of university facilities and services. It ensures that transgender students, staff, and visitors have equitable opportunities to succeed and contribute to the JUC community.
JUC has taken concrete steps to implement this policy. All transgender individuals are guaranteed equal access to education, scholarships, training, and employment opportunities. Support services are provided, including counselling, mentorship, and gender affirmation guidance to ensure a supportive environment for all.
University records recognise chosen names and pronouns where legally permissible, promoting a culture of respect and authenticity. Recruitment, leadership development, and classroom participation are managed under inclusive and transparent practices that prevent bias and ensure equitable opportunities.
The Non Discrimination Policy for Transgender Persons will be formally reviewed in 2027 to assess its effectiveness, relevance, and alignment with institutional goals, legal standards, and international best practices. JUC’s long term commitment to this policy highlights its role as a proactive and inclusive higher education institution dedicated to providing equitable access to learning and employment opportunities for all, regardless of gender identity.
