Kota Kinabalu, May 23, 2023
Jesselton University College (JUC) demonstrated its unwavering commitment to environmental conservation by organizing a remarkable beach cleaning project at Tanjung Lipat, Kota Kinabalu. On May 23, 2023, around 20 dedicated students and staff from JUC joined forces to make a positive impact on the local environment and raise awareness about the importance of keeping our beaches clean and pristine.
The beach cleaning project was part of JUC’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable practices and instill a sense of environmental responsibility among its students and staff. With the goal of creating a cleaner and greener community, the volunteers enthusiastically participated in the cleanup, collecting litter, and debris that had accumulated along the beautiful coastline.
“The beach cleaning project is not just about picking up trash; it is about taking collective action and being responsible stewards of our natural resources,” said the spokesperson of JUC. “Through this initiative, we aim to inspire our students, staff, and the local community to be actively involved in preserving our environment for future generations.”
The project not only contributed to the improvement of Tanjung Lipat’s natural beauty but also served as a valuable educational experience for all participants. As they worked together to clean up the beach, the volunteers gained a deeper understanding of the impact of plastic pollution on marine life and the ecosystem.
“Our students and staff are at the forefront of environmental conservation, and they lead by example. We believe that small actions like this can collectively make a significant difference,” added the spokesperson.
The beach cleaning project at Tanjung Lipat exemplifies JUC’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal Number 14, which focuses on conserving and sustainably using the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development.
JUC remains steadfast in its dedication to creating a greener and more sustainable future for Sabah and beyond. With a strong emphasis on environmental consciousness and social responsibility, the university continues to empower its students to become agents of positive change in the world.
As the success of the beach cleaning project at Tanjung Lipat inspires and motivates, JUC looks forward to organizing more impactful initiatives that contribute to the betterment of the environment and the community at large.
