Kota Kinabalu, 7 March 2024 – Jesselton University College (JUC) has formally implemented its Equal Opportunity Admissions Policy, which ensures a fair, transparent, and inclusive admissions process. The policy directly addresses gender equality in student applications, acceptance, and participation.
This policy outlines the university’s strategic efforts to encourage applications from women, eliminate gender-based barriers, and promote an inclusive academic environment where women thrive and lead. Our approach is rooted in the belief that empowering women in education contributes to a more just, innovative, and equitable society.
Approved by the university’s Board of Governors, the policy prohibits any form of discrimination based on gender and affirms the institution’s commitment to increasing access to higher education for all, especially women. All admission decisions are based on academic merit and guided by MQA Program Standards. The policy guarantees that no applicant will be disadvantaged due to gender, religion, ethnicity, nationality, disability, or other characteristics protected by law.
The policy introduces several measures that promote women’s participation in higher education at JUC. These include a transparent evaluation system, regular publication of entry requirements, and oversight mechanisms through the Internal Audit Unit to ensure compliance and handle any grievances. It also encourages a diverse and inclusive campus environment where women feel supported and empowered throughout their academic journey.
This initiative reflects JUC’s strong alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5, which calls for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. The Equal Opportunity Admissions Policy is accessible to the public and prominently displayed within the campus to raise awareness and promote accountability.
