Kota Kinabalu, September 13, 2024 – Jesselton University College (JUC) reinforces its commitment to environmental sustainability through the implementation of its Green Campus Policy, established in 2025 as part of the University College’s broader commitment to sustainable development and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The policy provides an institutional framework for promoting environmentally responsible practices across the JUC community, involving students, staff, tenants, vendors, and other stakeholders.
As an urban higher education institution, JUC adopts practical sustainability measures appropriate to its campus environment. Key areas of commitment include the responsible use of electricity, water, air-conditioning and office resources; waste reduction and recycling; reduction of single-use plastics; and increased digitalisation to minimise paper consumption.
JUC also recognises that building a sustainable campus requires more than operational improvements. The University College is committed to strengthening environmental awareness and sustainability competencies among students and staff through training, academic integration, and campus initiatives.
The Green Campus Policy further encourages low-carbon practices, including the use of public transportation, carpooling and responsible resource consumption, while promoting a clean, healthy and environmentally responsible campus environment.
Through these commitments, JUC continues to integrate sustainability into its institutional practices and campus culture, supporting particularly SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, and SDG 13: Climate Action.
The Green Campus Policy represents JUC’s continuing commitment to translating sustainability principles into practical institutional actions and fostering shared environmental responsibility across the university community.
