Kota Kinabalu, 29 November 2024 – Jesselton University College (JUC) officially launched the Inclusive Education for All (IEFA) programme, a long-term institutional initiative designed to support international students from low-income and lower-middle-income countries, as classified by the World Bank.
The IEFA programme offers a comprehensive support package that includes partial to full scholarships, free hostel accommodation for up to 24 months, free campus shuttle transportation, and academic support services such as English language improvement, mentoring, counselling, and basic wellness care. This programme is funded by the university and aims to ensure that financial hardship does not become a barrier to accessing and successfully completing quality higher education at JUC.
The IEFA programme was introduced in response to global disparities in educational access, particularly among students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds in eligible low-income and lower-middle-income countries. The programme reflects JUC’s ongoing commitment to building an inclusive and globally connected academic environment that provides educational opportunities regardless of students’ country of origin or financial circumstances.
The Inclusive Education for All (IEFA) programme remained active and continued to be implemented throughout following years and further notice, continuing JUC’s institutional support for financially disadvantaged international students from low-income and lower-middle-income countries based on World Bank income classifications.
Throughout 2026, eligible international students continued to have access to the IEFA support package, including partial to full scholarships, free hostel accommodation for up to 24 months, free campus shuttle transportation, English language improvement, mentoring, counselling, and basic wellness support. These measures are designed to reduce financial and educational barriers that may prevent students from lower-income countries from accessing, continuing, and successfully completing higher education.
JUC continues to monitor the programme through institutional student and intake records to review participation, student progression, and the continued delivery of support to eligible international students. The programme remains part of JUC’s long-term approach to widening international access to higher education.
As a continuing institutional scheme, IEFA reinforces JUC’s commitment to SDG 1 – No Poverty, SDG 4 – Quality Education, and SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities by providing practical financial, accommodation, transportation, and academic support to eligible international students from low-income and lower-middle-income countries.
