Jesselton University College (JUC) continues to expand lifelong learning opportunities by hosting educational talks, workshops and community learning activities on campus that are open to the general public. These activities provide opportunities for JUC students, staff and members of the wider community, including individuals who are not enrolled at the University, to gain practical knowledge and skills beyond formal academic programmes.
As part of this commitment, JUC regularly invites government agencies, industry professionals and subject experts to share their knowledge and experience with the wider community. Through public educational activities covering areas such as safety, integrity, professional development and workplace skills, JUC provides an accessible platform for continuous learning and knowledge sharing.
Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness
JUC hosted officers from Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia for an educational talk on fire safety, emergency preparedness and life-saving techniques. The session was open to JUC students, staff and members of the general public, providing participants with practical knowledge on fire-hazard awareness, emergency response and personal safety.
Through practical demonstrations and professional guidance, participants were able to strengthen their understanding of how to respond effectively during emergencies. The activity also promoted greater awareness of individual and community responsibility in creating safer and more resilient environments.
Integrity, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Awareness
JUC also welcomed an officer from the Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (SPRM) for an educational talk on integrity, ethics and the importance of combating corruption.
The session was open to students and members of the general public, extending civic and ethical education beyond JUC’s formal academic programmes. Through practical insights and real-life case studies, participants gained a deeper understanding of honesty, accountability, ethical decision-making and their role in contributing to a transparent and responsible society.
Business Week: Developing Future-Ready Professional Skills
As part of JUC Business Week, JUC organised the workshop “Managing Difficult People – Practical Strategies for Every Workplace.” The workshop was open to JUC students and members of the general public, providing participants with practical learning in effective communication, emotional intelligence, conflict resolution and professional workplace etiquette.
The workshop provided an opportunity for individuals beyond JUC’s enrolled student population to strengthen interpersonal and professional competencies that can be applied in different workplace and organisational settings.
Expanding Lifelong Learning Beyond Formal Education
These activities reflect JUC’s broader commitment to making educational opportunities available beyond formal degree and diploma programmes. By opening selected talks, workshops and community educational events to the general public, JUC enables individuals who are not enrolled at the University to access knowledge, professional expertise and practical learning opportunities.
Through the continued hosting of public educational activities on campus, JUC strengthens its role as a platform for lifelong learning, community education and knowledge sharing, supporting inclusive access to learning and contributing to SDG 4 – Quality Education.
