Lecturers from Jesselton University College (JUC) participated in a significant event known as the “Tripartite Structured Dialogue 2022 in Sabah.” The program was aimed at enhancing the employability of TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) graduates to tackle new challenges in the workforce. The event, held at Horizon Hotel Kota Kinabalu on September 8, 2022, was graced by the presence of Ts. Kamaruzaman Bin Hj. Md. Ali, Deputy Director-General (Operations and Management) of the Department of Skills Development, who officially inaugurated the event.
The Tripartite Structured Dialogue served as a platform for collaboration and exchange of ideas between industry stakeholders, educational institutions, and government agencies. It focused on addressing the evolving needs of the job market and the crucial role of TVET in producing skilled and adaptable graduates.
During the event, participants engaged in constructive discussions, exploring ways to enhance TVET curriculum and teaching methodologies. The dialogue emphasized the significance of fostering a strong collaboration between academia and industry to bridge the skills gap and create a workforce that meets industry requirements.
The dialogue aimed to promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth by exploring ways to bridge the skills gap and enhance TVET programs to meet industry demands. By empowering graduates with relevant skills, SDG 8’s vision of fostering full and productive employment and decent work for all becomes attainable.
Enhancing TVET curriculum and teaching methodologies was a key focus of the event. By improving the quality of education and aligning it with the evolving job market needs, SDG 4’s objective of ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all was reinforced.
Through the collaboration between JUC, industry stakeholders, and government agencies, the dialogue sought to create opportunities for TVET graduates to improve their employability. By providing access to quality education and skill development, the event contributed to SDG 1’s mission of eradicating poverty and reducing inequalities. The collaboration between academia, industry, and government demonstrated during the dialogue exemplifies the power of collective action in driving meaningful change.
