JUC launch Inclusive Education for All (IEFA): Supporting International Students from Low-Income Countries

Kota Kinabalu, 29 November 2024 – Jesselton University College (JUC) has officially launched the Inclusive Education for All (IEFA) programme, a long-term institutional initiative designed to support international students from low and lower-middle income countries, as classified by the World Bank.

The IEFA programme offers a comprehensive support package that includes partial to full scholarships, free hostel accommodation for up to 24 months, free campus shuttle transport, and academic support services such as English language improvement, mentoring, counselling, and basic wellness care. This programme is fully funded by the university and aims to ensure that financial hardship is not a barrier to access quality higher education at JUC.

The IEFA programme was introduced in direct response to global disparities in educational access, especially among students from underprivileged backgrounds in countries such as Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, and the Philippines, among others. It reflects JUC’s ongoing commitment to building an inclusive, globally connected academic environment that empowers students regardless of their country of origin or financial status.

This scheme is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 – Quality Education, SDG 1 – No Poverty, and SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities, by ensuring that underserved students from less affluent nations can pursue and complete their studies at JUC. The programme is not a one-off initiative, but part of JUC’s long-term commitment to education-driven development. Annual intake data will be tracked to monitor student success, and JUC plans to expand the programme’s reach through cross-border academic partnerships and international donor collaborations in the future

As of its launch in 2024, IEFA is publicly accessible and open for applications via the university’s official website. The programme operates on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to eligibility and available slots. JUC encourages international applicants from eligible countries to explore this opportunity and join a diverse academic community that values inclusivity, affordability, and long-term educational impact.
