JUC Expands Educational Outreach and Lifelong Learning Beyond Campus

Jesselton University College (JUC) continues to expand lifelong learning and educational outreach opportunities beyond its enrolled student community by providing educational, skills-development and community-based learning programmes for members of the wider community.

As part of this commitment, JUC participates on a programmed basis in National Training Week (NTW), a national training initiative through which JUC extends educational and skills-development opportunities to the wider community. In collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA), HRD Corp and other stakeholders, JUC joined the initiative to provide practical learning opportunities for community members, including individuals who are not enrolled as students at JUC.

Through its programmed participation in NTW, JUC supports educational outreach beyond the University and contributes its education and training expertise to community-based learning activities. The programme was open to the general public and provided free of charge, enabling individuals from different backgrounds to participate in educational and skills-development activities outside formal university education.

More than 450 participants from four communities took part in skills-development activities covering areas including floral entrepreneurship, digital marketing and dropshipping. The activities provided participants with practical knowledge and skills that can support personal development, entrepreneurship, self-employment and employment opportunities.

Inclusive Learning & Development Outreach at NASOM Kota Kinabalu

JUC also extends its educational outreach to children with special needs through its Inclusive Learning & Development Outreach at NASOM Kota Kinabalu. The programme provides JUC students with opportunities to apply psychological learning theories in practical community settings while supporting the social, emotional and cognitive development of children with special needs.

Through engagement and learning activities, the programme connects academic knowledge with community needs and provides meaningful educational support beyond the University campus. It also enables JUC students to develop practical experience in inclusive learning while contributing to the learning and development of children at NASOM Kota Kinabalu.

Learning Through Play: Educational Outreach at Tadika Yayasan

JUC further extends its educational outreach to young children through Learning Through Play: Educational Outreach at Tadika Yayasan. The programme uses structured play and direct interaction to create an engaging learning environment while supporting children’s early development.

Through structured play and direct interaction, JUC students were able to observe and better understand children’s physical, emotional and social development. The programme promotes experiential learning while contributing to the development of strong foundations during early childhood.

The initiative supports SDG 4 – Quality Education by encouraging learning through real-world experience and strengthening early childhood development. It also provides JUC students with practical opportunities to apply their academic knowledge while contributing to educational activities within the wider community.

Expanding Education Beyond Campus

Together, these initiatives demonstrate JUC’s broader commitment to programmed educational outreach and lifelong learning beyond campus. Through National Training Week, inclusive learning activities at NASOM Kota Kinabalu, and early childhood educational outreach at Tadika Yayasan, JUC extends its educational expertise to different groups and learning needs within the wider community.

Through continued community education and outreach, JUC supports inclusive access to learning, skills development and lifelong learning, contributing to SDG 4 – Quality Education and strengthening the University’s role in extending educational opportunities beyond its enrolled student population.
